As a new kitty parent you have probably rushed to the store and purchased all manner of goodies for the new member of the household. Possibly you got a collar, kitty litter box, kitty litter, cat food, toys and a place for it to sleep and maybe even a cat perch and treats but did you remember to do the most important thing for your new kitten?

Every year humans neglect to protect their new family member by getting it the necessary vaccinations to keep the kitten and its humans healthy. Depending on whether your cat is an indoor or outdoor pet will determine what types of shots it needs and how often. One shot that all cats need regardless of if they are in or out of the house is the rabies vaccination yearly.

Other shots will keep the cat free from diseases or aliments that are unique to felines. A veterinarian will be able to give you all of the information you need to help you determine what is the proper dosage, time and need basis for your cat. Many cat owners merely bring the adorable baby kitty home and love it possibly have it de-clawed and then forget all about the need for shots.

In order for everyone to stay healthy it is most important for the cat to at least have rabies shot once yearly. If the cat does not get the shot and bites someone then the person will have to take painful shots to the stomach in order to ensure the human does not contract rabies. Needless to say this is an unnecessary expanse and really emotionally upsetting time for the human who has to endure the shots.

Be a responsible pet owner and make certain that you get the proper shots for your cat, keep your cat vaccinated with records to ensure that you can prove to the proper authorities that you have indeed had the vaccinations for your cat. Not only will you feel better but anyone who is scratched by your cat or bitten will feel less anxious about getting rabies.
